The Bildeston Crown’s Chris Lee joins MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace for “Cooks & Kids” – cookbook no.3 launched today

October 29, 2016

Suffolk Chef, Chris Lee has put on his “Cooks & Kids” whites for the third time; this year joined by MasterChef judge Gregg Wallace who has co-edited Cooks & Kids 3, the third in a series of cookbooks which sees enthusiastic young cooks team up with top chefs to bring their recipes to life. The brainchild of the National Fostering Agency Group (NFA), the Cooks & Kids initiative challenges children and young people aged 6-18 to create their favourite recipes for a chance to cook them with a top chef and have it featured in the Cooks & Kids cookbook. The project is both a great way to get kids involved in the kitchen and teach them about cooking and healthy eating while at the same time making cooking fun.

Chris Lee was delighted to invite local families selected by the National Fostering Agency Group (NFA) to cook with him in The Bildeston Crown kitchens.  Later in the summer, a nation-wide group of children and young people from NFA, were invited to London to team up with Chris and other chefs including Tom Kerridge, Michel Roux Jr., Cyrus Todiwala, Aldo Zilli, MasterChef winners Simon Wood and Ping Coombes and previous Celebrity MasterChef contestants Wayne Sleep and Sophie Thompson.  The children worked with the chefs to cook up their winning recipes and receive MasterChef style feedback on the meal.

The resulting Cooks & Kids 3 was officially launched on Saturday 29th October.  The Bildeston Crown is to celebrate with some of the families involved on Wednesday 2nd November when the children will help cook a meal based on recipes from the book before enjoying the lunch with their families.

Gregg Wallace said: “Working with Chefs such as Chris Lee from the Bildeston Crown, who has taken part in all three of the “Cooks and Kids books”, is a real pleasure. Chefs work extremely hard and to see them commit so much time to encouraging young kids to cook and share their passion is inspirational”. He continued: “It’s great to see the kids eyes light up as their confidence  grows when they cook with the Chefs; Chris in particular has a real ability to make them feel at ease – you can also see how much the Chefs really enjoy the experience too”

Chris Lee added: “Cooking with these kids – and for me this is the third Cooks & Kids book I have done, and seeing them hanging onto every word during the recipes – brings back the reason why I cook at all. It’s a chance to do something very small – cook – which could make such a big difference in the kid’s life – it can give them a passion for food.”

The recipe book which retails at £20 can be purchased online from the publishers Graffeg or at selected bookshops.  Copies are also available from The Bildeston Crown – a perfect Christmas present for any young family! All royalties from the sale of Cooks & Kids 3 will be donated to Place2Be.
