Updated: 5 days ago

The Crown was triumphant at the East Anglian Daily Times Business Awards.

Recognised as the East Anglian Daily Times Environmental and Sustainability Business of the Year, an incredible achievement for a hospitality business!

Heathpatch are especially pleased that they won the Environmental and Sustainability Award, ahead of some serious competition. This fits so well with our underpinning commitment to the health and enhancement of the Suffolk countryside around us. Thank you to sponsors, EastWind, for supporting this award.

Estate-to-Plate

The garden team at Nedging Hall and the talented team of chefs at The Crown are committed to working hand-in-hand to create an incredible dining experience focused on seasonality and freshness. They want everyone to understand where their food comes from and are continually looking to expand the Nedging Hall Kitchen Garden.

Owned and managed by Nedging Hall Estate, The Crown sits proudly on the high street. Nedging Hall Estate is a family-owned country estate in Suffolk, comprising of The Crown, The Lindsey Rose, The Brewery Tap, Mauldons Brewery and Nedging Hall; an exclusive-use country house. The businesses work full circle and that’s key to their sustainability efforts.

Brewing ales from the family farm

From the barley in the fields to the beer in the pubs, Mauldons Brewery also puts sustainability at the heart of what they do. The barley itself is grown on the family farm just a few miles away and the spent grains are then fed to Red Poll cattle, a Suffolk rare breed. It’s a full circle, leaving the environment in a better state than they found it.

Charlie Buckle, Managing Director of Nedging Hall Estate, commented: "This means so much to us as our Estate to Plate ethos is key. Our focus is to develop our green strategy to ensure we are sustainable and deliver high standards whilst working with the environment, and not taking from it. We understand the importance of our surroundings and the foundations it provides us.

Sustainability and our environmental impact is at the forefront of the Nedging Hall Estate mindset. From the gardening team at Nedging Hall to our kitchen team at The Bildeston Crown, every individual’s role is fundamental to achieving our vision. One of our favourite quotes, from Robert Swan OBE; “The greatest threat to our planet is the belief that someone else will save it.”
