Racing is very much part of The Crown

Updated: 5 days ago

Horses are very much a part of The Crown. If you’ve seen our Paddock Bar, then you know how much we love horse racing. A treasure trove of archived memories and a real celebration of racing.

Point-to-pointing is a personal favourite of ours

A Point-to-Point is a form of amateur horse racing over fences held at a variety of racecourses throughout the UK. It's a great day out in the countryside; both to enjoy sport and to socialise.

Charlie Buckle, owner and Managing Director of Nedging Hall Estate has a love of race-riding himself. Charlie has gone to ride many winners, most recently at High Easter races on April 16th 2024 on board Driveondonn. Through his passion, he’s continued his family’s legacy on the estate.

My passion for riding started when I was young – I was heavily influenced by my family’s love for horses. My Grandmother chaired the Suffolk Horse Society and bred Suffolk Punches. My father in turn was a winning point-to-point jockey and my mother breeds professional racehorses. You could say it’s in my blood!” – Charlie Buckle

Excited to launch 'In Conversation with…'

The Crown is excited to launch our first ‘In conversation with...’ on May 9th 2024. An evening of tales, tomfoolery and, of course, good food. You’ll sit down to a delicious three-course supper whilst listening to a series of personalities.

It won’t come as much of a surprise that our first ‘In conversation with…’ will be a racing personality. May 9th, we’ll play host to Derek Thompson, known as Tommo.  A former jockey with amazing tales from the weighing room, ‘Tommo’ even once beat King Charles whilst racing at Plumpton.

How about a 'Gallops and Stable Tour'?

The Crown is launching a new partnership with Suffolk based company ~ Galloping to Give ~ offering behind the scenes horse racing experiences.

Galloping To Give, run by racing enthusiast Henry Kimbell, aims to gives you greater access to the world of horse racing; organising stable tours and gallop mornings with leading trainers, plus top hospitality days at the races.

It's a partnership we feel can be winner amongst our customers.
